VEBY - Virtual Exchanges for Balkan Youth

Overall, VEBY, its aims and activities were designed upon the needs of the Partners’ target groups and Partners’ local and national communities. The Project aims to upscale already used practiced during period of Covid-19 where virtual mobilities began to become more popular in the Erasmus+ world, and to use the collected experience of all partners to provide constructive experiences to the target groups. At the same time, VEBY will use a target approach to better involve young people, and will pay attention to potential difficulties young people with fewer opportunities face, in addition to potential difficulties for the ones coming from non-Programme countries (e.g. communication in English, unacquaintance with digital tools, etc), in order to produce a high quality learning program for the participants. Last, VEBY aims to promote the EU scope and its opportunities to the non-Programme countries of the Partnership, as well as at European level.

VEBY’s general objectives comply mainly with 3 major priorities of the Erasmus+ scope:

- Inclusion and diversity: Throughout the project’s steps, an internal strategy (guidelines) will be developed for the better inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities in virtual mobilities, after a relevant needs analysis. During the final steps of the project, the gathered experience, findings and good practices of the Partnership will be compiled in a Manual and will be published for their free use from fellow youth workers, educators and organisations. Also, youth workers, educators and Partners’ staff members will be trained in order to ensure understanding, constructive communication and skill- building among the young people with diverse backgrounds that will participate in the virtual exchanges that they will facilitate. The Project’s virtual youth exchanges will put specific focus in reaching young people that face obstacles that prevent them from participating in mobilities with peers, and will include non-formal methods that will create a safe space for their interactions.

- Digitalisation: In all trainings and youth exchanges of the project, all participants will get familiarized with digital interactive tools that will be used for non-formal educational activities. At the same time, young people will learn how to spot and deal with fake news, becoming more digitally-literate and will learn how to develop impactful online campaigns for social causes. The virtual exchanges and trainings themselves will promote the involvement of youth workers and young people in the digital scope, and will expose them to the potential and benefits of virtual exchanges. This will also contribute to promote a more environmental-friendly approach to youth exchanges, that decreases carbon emissions due to transportation.

- Participation in democratic life: The activities of the project will mainly concern the exchange of opinions, feelings and viewpoints of young people on issues that occupy them personally, as well as local and national communities. Through the exchange of realities young people will explore commonalities and differences, and will exchange ideas about topics that concern them and their communities, enhancing their knowledge and inspiration about civic participation. Young people will also engage in co-creating an online Conference to promote unity, active participation, inclusion and human rights, becoming actors of change and transmitting impactful messages to their local and national communities.

The project is led by United Societies of Balkans (Greece) in partnership with Youth Alliance - Krusevo (North Macedonia), Local Democracy Agency Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Together for life (Albania). The project is co-funded by the European Commission under the action "Virtual exchanges in higher education and youth".
